What’s wrong with this picture? Specsavers’ new and “improved” solution sent out with their contact lense subscription. 3 pieces of redundant, mixed material plastic, with zero chance of being recycled in the current system, as they’re too small. High chance of escaping into the environment, and then being washed down to waterways and becoming #oceanplastic. In a world full of great guidelines on how to produce better packaging, and with most manufacturers and brands having this expertise in house, there is no excuse for this! Shame on you Specsavers 🤦♀️🥸

We leave 100% of the thinking (and delivering) of seasonal veg to Riverford Organic Farmers at our house, so this is a fascinating analysis to see. There is an underlying truth to be highlighted here: #sustainability does not mean there is only one solution and only one 'right choice' - should we be eating green beans off season? Why not if they are grown indoors using heat and energy from renewable sources? And what happens to the (predominantly female) workforce in Kenya if we decided to completely stop buying imports? 🧐🧐🧐🌍🌎🌏
Is eating seasonally better for the climate? Yes, but it's complicated. Let me explain: Products from a heated greenhouse have a much higher carbon footprint. This is true for green beans and other products like spinach and tomatoes. Not buying them in winter, or choosing the frozen option, is definitely a better option. BUT... Vegetables contribute only 4% to the carbon footprint of the average EU diet. So even if you reduce emissions, it's only a small part. 83% of the emissions come from meat and dairy. So first eat more vegetables and less meat. Then buy more seasonal vegetables. The other thing about seasonal food is that it just feels good and it has many other benefits (see our blog post about it). This is why we created our seasonal calendar for Northwestern Europe (Netherlands, UK, Germany, Belgium). It shows you when spinach is in season, and also provides 4 seasonal recipes for each month. You can learn more on the Fork Ranger website. You can buy the seasonal calendar here: https://lnkd.in/g_3nq_8G (it applies to the Netherlands, UK, Germany, and Belgium) ---- 🙋♂️ I share facts about climate change and food. Follow me and join my exploration for a sustainable version of 'The Good Life‘. 📱 If you want to get more facts about the impact of our food (and recipes), download the Fork Ranger app in the Google Play or App Store. #seasonal #greenbeans #sustainablefoodsystems Source: Broekema, R., & Blonk, H. I love this! We're huge fans of both pasta and Marie Kondo in our house - I didn't know this ultimate crossover was even an option. Now off to pack some secondhand sales while listening to the pasta-boiling playlists by Barilla Group 🍝👚📦🙏 #sustainability ♻️
On World Recycling Day, Barilla Group announced its collaboration with Marie Kondo, the renowned Japanese 'queen of decluttering', on the 'Secondhand Box' project. This initiative, conceived by LePub Italy, seeks to repurpose pasta packaging into sustainable shipping packs for pre-loved clothing items. Through short video tutorials, Kondo guides consumers on reducing waste by giving new life to pasta boxes, ranging from 500g to 1kg and beyond, for various pasta types. #packaging #sustainablepackaging #sustainability

ENVI voted YES to #PPWR. Now it all depends on the plenary vote in April. Still too early to hold ones breath for the outcome, but we'll know soon enough 🤐

Thanks for the post Alexandra. I can't quite work out what the communication is trying to say?
